*Spoiler Alert: This is the last book of Brandon Mull’s Fablehaven series. My reviews of the previous books are here.*

“To make matters worse, her parents had been taken through no fault of their own. They had never even heard of the Society of the Evening Star. Kendra, Seth, and maybe Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson were the ones to blame. The abduction had to be in retaliation for Navarog’s failure at Wyrmroost. The thought of her beloved parents paying for her decisions made Kendra want to scream her way to insanity.”

In the thrilling conclusion of Brandon Mull’s Fablehaven series, twists are abound as Kendra and Seth struggle to save the world from the opening of Zzyzx. Once again they are separated, taking different paths to stop the Sphinx from opening the Demon Prison. Not only do they encounter new creatures, but they also learn the secret behind the Sphinx, the location of the last hidden preserve, as well as how their unique abilities are needed to stop the destruction of the world.

Kendra and Seth have grown up in the last Fablehaven novel. Now when Seth makes a mistake, he owns up to it and works to right his wrong. At least he is taking responsibility for his actions, no matter how stupid they may be. They both learn to fully use their abilities as Fairykind and shadow charmer. Though they both fail in various areas when faced with difficult situations, they work together to overcome all that is put in their way.

I found the ending to the series to be non-stop action with many unexpected twists throughout the whole novel. These twists kept me on the edge of my seat, always guessing what was going to happen on the next page or in the next chapter. All of the questions surrounding the Sphinx, the artifacts and Zzyzx are answered, leaving me very fulfilled at the ending. The ending itself was unexpected and well written.

I am sad that the series is over. It is a world that I hope Brandon Mull will revisit in the future, maybe after Kendra and Seth have become adults and take over the preserve. Either way it is a wonderfully constructed world that I loved travelling through. I recommend the whole series to readers young and old.
